Invitations have gone out to all past and present members of the Ngunguru fire brigade to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Ngunguru fire station.

A fire which destroyed the Ngunguru "Oasis" tearooms in 1959 led to a few men discussing the need for a brigade.

During the past half century the population on the Tutukaka coast has increased dramatically. There are hundreds of new dwellings and it becomes an even busier tourist spot in the summer when the population soars.

The Ngunguru brigade has assisted in thousands of call-outs involving building and scrub fires, motor vehicle accidents, storm damage including slips, securing roofs and trampolines, search and rescues and animal rescues.

Through all of this the comradeship and the sense of community has held strong within the brigade. It has grown to a crew of 20 firefighters and operational support.
