The subdivision of a block of tribal land overlooking Matauri Bay was seen as a way to stave off financial ruin.

Submissions are being sought on a move to double the 52-year leases on Matauri Bay sections being sold to bail Matauri X Incorporation shareholders out of an investment disaster.

An application by the Maori Land Court-appointed interim administrator of the incorporation, Kevin Gillespie, of Auckland, seeking a variation of the Matauri X constitution to extend the leases came before the court at Kaikohe last week.
