Defining the Nature of Our Coastal Communities

Structure Plans that will define the future growth and characteristics of a number of Whangarei's coastal areas will be discussed at public forums coming up over the next few weeks. Open forums will be held between 4pm and 8pm on the dates in the table below, and presentations will be made at 7pm. [The Ngunguru/Tutukaka forum will be on Mon 15 Dec at Ngunguru Hall]

Future Development in Ngunguru

Plans for Ngunguru include finding ways to enable Ngunguru Spit to become a regional park. For people wanting to build in the area, the Structure Plan recommends retaining large lot living areas (“Living 3”) as they are in the 2003 Structure Plan, so long as those building and developing make absolutely sure adequate on-site effluent disposal and water supply is provided. The Structure Plan also recommends re-zoning land along Waiotoi Rd to “Business 2” (light industrial).
