Land development company Landco says it is deciding whether or not to appeal the water take rate for its Waihopai Valley dam.

The dam, which will be Marlborough's largest with a wall 1500m long and 20m high, storing up to 18 million cubic metres of water, was granted resource consent last week.

Landco head of corporate communications George Hulbert said they had applied for a water-take rate of 1400 litres per second. However, commissioner John Maassen decided to reduce this to 900 litres per second.

Mr Hulbert said it was great news to be granted consent but that Landco was still digesting the decision and deciding whether to appeal the rate of water take.
