Verse of The Day
(Luke 1:26-28)

Vickie Collis goes swimming in her yard twice a day - and she's not happy about it.

Her yard at Finch St, One Tree Point floods with seawater twice a day on the high tide, meaning she has to keep her 3-year-old daughter Shiralee inside for fear she will trip and drown or get stuck in the boggy muck.

At its highest, the water is knee-deep and keen gardener Ms Collis has given up her dreams of having a garden to potter around in, as the plants and lawn - and worms - just shrivel and die. Last year, $2000 worth of plants were ruined by the salt water.

It's poor foresight on the part of the builders years ago - houses should never have been allowed to be built there.

Ms Collis says the flooding is a result of Hopper Developments' work on the Marsden Cove marina a couple of hundred metres from her house - but the Hopper boss says the 50-year-old houses on Finch St's north side are victims of council policy, which now says that all buildings must be 1.5m above sea level.
