Human Interest - Local
Written by Leonie Molloy / FOM

A Friends of Matapouri information session was held at Matapouri Hall on Saturday 5 January 2008. Once again the Hall was packed with residents wanting to hear more about FOM and our activities especially the Otito Reserve boundary issue.

Nau Mai, Haere mai, Welcome

People are passionate about Matapouri Bay. It is that kind of place. Matapouri and its neighbouring beaches lay claim to some of the most pristine waters and unique coastline in NZ.  Rich in environmental and cultural sigificance, for many years this famously beautiful stretch of coast has enchanted people from all over the world.

We know it's special. We want it to stay that way.

Friends of Matapouri are Tangata whenua, local residents, bach owners and concerned visitors who have come together in the common desire to safeguard the wellbeing of Matapouri's coastal areas. Our purposes are to ensure the protection of the environment and reserves and the maintenance of amenities, and acknowledge and preserve sites of significance to iwi. We will use our powers as an incorporated society to ensure that the District and Regional Councils adhere to their statutory obligations with regard to public consultation and in all matters that affect the Matapouri community and environment.

Friends of Matapouri represents our united commitment to the protection of Matapouri as a precious heirloom for the generations to come.
