Steve Chadwick

Negotiations have begun to save Northland's Ngunguru Sandspit from development and put it into public ownership.

Conservation Minister Steve Chadwick and associate minister Mahara Okeroa have met with representatives from Landco which is a developer and owner of the sandspit in Tutukaka, near Whangarei. Ms Chadwick had already met with representatives of the Ngunguru Sandspit Protection Society.

The minister says she does not want to see the sandspit developed as it is a beautiful landscape and an ecologically important and fragile spot.
