Not everyone in Tutukaka believes the Poor Knights Islands marine reserve's 25th anniversary is worth celebrating.

On February 18, 1981, amid controversy, the islands became New Zealand's second marine reserve.

Long-time Poor Knights diver Wade Doak says the full no-take marine reserve has made an immense difference. "It's as if a spring was released. The first thing we started to notice was the snapper was coming back in droves."
