Lengthy cross-examinations have forced an adjournment during an Environment Court hearing on the future of Long Bay.

The hearing will resume on October 9 so two of the major parties can present their cases.

Only North Shore City Council and developers Landco have finished presenting their evidence in three weeks of questioning to date.

One of 14 Auckland Regional Council witnesses has been cross-examined, while Long Bay Okura Great Park Society and Okura Environmental Group are yet to take the stand.

The depth of detail in questioning is the main reason for the adjournment, says council environmental policy manager Trevor Mackie.

There were different opinions on issues such as how sedimentation from earthworks will affect the area's marine reserve

Points of difference between experts in each party were examined extensively, he says.

"There was very thorough questioning of some witnesses, particularly when there's differences between engineers, planners, scientists and landscape architects.

"Ninety percent of the witnesses were questioned by everybody."
