Tuesday March 7, 7.00pm:
Whangamata Marina Project
For fourteen years the Whangamata Marina Society has been fighting a legal battle to build a 200-berth marina which is worth millions of dollars. Opposing it have been many locals and iwi; fighting to retain a slice of the coast as they know it. The marina was given the go-ahead by the Environment Court but the Minister for the Environment Chris Carter has always had the last say and today he did. He overturned the court's decision and scotched the project using his ministerial powers. Sandra Goudie, the local National MP, and Mick Kelly from the Whangamata Marina society are live.
A video of the segment is available on the TVNZ website—in either broadband or dial-up quality.

The Whangamata Marina
As indicated at the begining of the news clip Chris Carter had been presented with the true Science about the Marina\'s impacts on the environment.

Yet the Marina society through it\'s manipulation of the Local Council, managed to sweep the true science about the Marina project under the carpet.

This whole saga has become a political football since Nationa Conservation Minister Nick Smith directed DOC to reach an agreement with the Marina Society in 1999.

]This is not just about some local boaties wanting a place to park their boats as Mick Kelly would have you believe.

It is crude, raw, Property Speculation, in it\'s most ugliest form, at the expense of the Environment.

between 40 to 60 exclusive penthouses are to be built, with increased urban density behind them. go to my home page to find out more.

[B]it is local body elections this year, we need to look seriously at those we elect, and their motives.[/B
