A multi-million dollar marine village has the go-ahead at Gulf Harbour.
The village, dubbed the 'Eastern Boat Harbour', passed its first resource consent hurdle this month.
Its development plan features 550 homes, a 200 room hotel, 2000 square metres of office space and a similar sized commercial zone featuring shops and restaurants.
They will be built on a sloping 10 hectares overlooking a 3.2 hectare harbour abutting the existing Gulf Harbour marina.
Most of the planned apartments are about five storeys, but the hotel could be higher, developers say.
Some water's edge dwellings could be linked with a boat stack for easy water access, while others will have their own launch and yacht parking.
Nearly all the car parking in the waterside township will be underground, freeing up a hectare for reserves.
Floating walkways provide for pedestrians and cyclists.
Getting the comprehensive development plan approved concludes years of work for land owner Gulf Corporation's Roger Coulson.
