The Conservation Minister is in negotiations to buy a stretch of coastal land north of Auckland. Ngati Whatua sub-tribe Te Uri o Hou owns the land at Te Arai Beach near Mangawhai and is planning an 850-home sub-division complete with resort and golf course. The proposal sparked outrage from local residents and now Chris Carter wants to see if he can secure the land in public ownership. Sarah Bristow reports:
