Coastal roads closed

Several Whangarei coastal communities have been cut off by flooding.

A slip has closed the road between Whangarei and the town of Ngunguru, and alternative routes are under water.

Ann Midson from Whangarei District Council says contractors are trying to clear one lane on Ngunguru Road but it will take some time. She says other roads are closed by flooding near Whangarei and parts of the central city could go under water at high tide - between 4.30pm and 5pm.
