What is this all about?
There has been a development proposed on Te Arai beach (also known as Eyres Beach), which in a nutshell is suggesting 1,400-2,000 houses on 620 hectares from Mangawhai Sand Dune along to Eyres Point (Te Arai Point) in the forestry area, 200-400m from the high tide mark.
Also proposed is a Golf Course 2 Camping Grounds, a dozen shops and a new road going through from Black Swamp..
There are two endangered species on this beach including the Fairy Tern of which there are less than 40 left in the world.
We at Te Arai Preservation Society believe that this area is unique for many reasons and that no urbanization of this area should take place, and certainly not on the scale proposed. We suggest that the land could be purchased as a regional park to be enjoyed by generations to come.
