Sandspit Newsletter, November 2006.

Something is going on at the end of the Ngunguru Ford Road. This photo just in...

Below is a map of the area that's being cleared and excavated. The brown cross-hatched circles that show in one of the images below are archaeological sites.

The Whangarei District Council GIS site allows you to explore this area for yourself.

George Hulbert, Head of Corporate Communications at LandCo, writes, clarifying the situation:

When I most recently had a look at the NCAG site, I saw the photo you have of the work we are doing to clear an access route into the consented subdivision on the former Mathers & Butt block, next to the sandspit.

You may be aware that this land has an Environment Court-issued subdivision consent in place for a lifestyle block subdivision and the work that is being carried out is in accordance with consents / approvals. The work that is currently being undertaken is not related to and does not affect Landco’s plans for the Ngunguru sandspit. The clearance work is being undertaken carefully after extensive discussions with our ecologists and archaeologists, as well as through close daily liaison with Te Waiariki representatives.
