More beaches bite the dust — not quite literally, but Cable Bay, between Coopers Beach and Taioa [all within Doubtless Bay and all which provide sheltered mellow surfing for surfers of all levels], has seen the construction of 50 condo units.
The fabled Te Arae beach front has just been sold and is ear-marked for the construction of multi-level condos also. The previous owners [Iwi] are quite adamant that the beach will not be touched.
Ngunguru Spit is also facing development and will possibly end up looking like Omaha.

Landcorp statement is typically "Developer speak". "We have listened to and carefully considered what we have heard. We believe there is a real opportunity to create a substantial public reserve on the sand spit to conserve its natural habitats and culturally important areas as well as accommodating carefully controlled sensitive and attractive development.
