Hikurangi has retained its identity, Whangarei Heads residents have been given their own ward - and Smeaton Drive is now in Bream Bay.

These are just some of the features of the new voting system for district councillors after a representation review by Whangarei District Council.

The Hikurangi/Coastal ward includes all the Hikurangi township along with the coastal area north of Ngunguru River. The new Whangarei Heads ward stretches from south of Ngunguru River to the northern side of Whangarei Harbour and down almost to Onerahi.
