Human Interest - Local
Written by Mike Barrington, The Northern Advocate

A new road opening today between the Whangarei suburbs of Tikipunga and Otangarei will later connect with the Kamo bypass extension, now scheduled for completion three months earlier than expected.

The new road is part of a 1.2km link from Spedding Rd in Tikipunga to the bypass. A section of the link, from Tikipunga to William Jones Dr, which was to be opened after a blessing at 6am today, will give motorists access from Spedding Rd to Kamo Rd via William Jones Dr, Jack St and Keyte St.

The link is then expected to provide a much more direct and efficient route to and from the city centre for residents in Tikipunga, Glenbervie and the Tutukaka Coast area.

The balance of the link from State Highway 1 to Tikipunga, via the new Kamo bypass, will be opened when the bypass is completed. The link is then expected to provide a much more direct and efficient route to and from the city centre for residents in Tikipunga, Glenbervie and the Tutukaka Coast area.
