The attack took place in January at Brian and Christine Anstiss's property, accessed from Tongatu Rd near Ngunguru.

A smart piece of detective work has lead to a dog being impounded which was believed to have attacked an alpaca and a mountain pony. The dog was found more than 25kms away from where the attacks took place.

The unregistered labrador/mastiff cross was found in a garage at a house in Whau Valley Rd in suburban Whangarei last Monday. The attack took place in January at Brian and Christine Anstiss's property, accessed from Tongatu Rd near Ngunguru.

Environment Northland officers tracked down the dog at the Whau Valley address by using Whangarei District Council records and the electoral roll.

WDC communications manager Pauline Rose said the dog and its owner had visited a property in Tongatu Rd.
