Sadness and shock hang over Tutukaka after the death of local identity Raewyn Ann Thomson.

Mrs Thomson, 53, died when her vehicle plunged into Ngunguru River near Captain Percy's Landing on Tuesday morning.

She leaves her husband of 11 years, Nigel, better known as Blue, her son Riki and Blue's children and grandchildren.

The Thomsons are the popular owners of Braeburn Resort holiday accommodation at Whangaumu (Wellington's) Bay.
