Keeping count: Ben Edgar, on the Tutukaka Youth Sailing Club display, has Gracie Edgar and Alec Jackson guessing the number of jellybeans in the jar at the Whale Tail Park gala day, in Ngunguru.

Hundreds of people descended on Ngunguru's Fish Tail Park park for the first of what organisers hope will become a major annual event - the Ngunguru Village Fair and Regatta.

The Tutukaka Coast Residents and Ratepayers Association and Tutukaka Coast Lions only started talking about the possibility of a fair four weeks or so ago.

But yesterday the inaugural event was deemed a huge success by Chris Robertson, one of the organising team, so much so that plans are already afoot to make the event even bigger and better next year.
