Hikurangi Coastal Ward councillor Jeroen Jongejans says the footpath has been 30 years in the making.

Shoebridge Cres in Ngunguru may soon boast one of the longest footpaths in the country.

The new footpath is not long in length at 430 metres, but in the time residents have waited for it to go ahead.

Resident Sophie Edwards has been asking the Whangarei District Council to build a footpath on the road for decades. The road is used by a large number of kids walking to and from Ngunguru School and includes a dangerous blind corner, she says.
