At the the present rate the waste lands of this County are being taken up, it is estimated that within three years there will be no Crown lands left for settlement

The Whangarei County Council has made an earnest appeal to the Government for a grant of 100 towards improving the road to Ngunguru. At present there are some 30 or 40 hands employed on the Ngunguru Coal Coy's grounds, and shortly after the new year the Coy. expects to be in a position to export coal. Considerable traffic may be therefore anticipated between Whangarei and Ngunguru during this summer. The blocks of Crown lands that were recently surveyed between Nguuguru and Matapouri are being taken up by intending settlers, and before long a large settlement may be looked for in land around the neighbourhood of Ngunguru. This week a gentleman from Taranaki has been making enquiries about the Taheke block, between Whareora and the East Coast, with a view of taking up the block for several families, who have sufficient capital to grass the whole block at once. At the the present rate the waste lands of this County are being taken up, it is estimated that within three years there will be no Crown lands left for settlement.
