Two Ngunguru locals, Evan and Anna Hamlet, happened upon
the new track last Wednesday and set out to explore.

The 7-kilometre Matapouri-Ngunguru track is now open for walking. It's another link in Te Araroa Trust's Northland route, and part of Whangarei District Council's coastal walkway.

The track is tramping standard and traverses pasture, pine forest and regenerating bush where local residents are seeking to preserve kiwi - therefore no dogs. Te Araroa Trust put the track in place, and thanks the funder, the ASB Community Trust.
