EDS will be carefully monitoring council responses and expects changes to be put in place during 2011.

The Environmental Defence Society has give a cautious welcome to the release today of the New Zealand Coastal Policy Statement by the Minister of Conservation. The policy statement will replace one promulgated in 1994 and will come into force in early December.

"Our initial appraisal of the new policy statement has identified some welcome and positive changes," said EDS Senior Policy Analyst Raewyn Peart.
