ON TRACK: One of the views from the Mt Manaia track.

Sir Paul Reeves, the new patron of the Bream Head Conservation Trust, will attend the re-opening of a walking track as steeped in culture as it is natural values.

The Mt Manaia Track, which is listed in the AA's 101 regional "must dos", will be re-opened on Saturday. It has been closed to the public since December last year for the major upgrade by Department of Conservation.

A dawn ceremony at the base of the Mt Manaia track will include blessing five new poupou kohatu - concrete statues placed there to signify the importance of Mount Manaia in Maori history.
