CUT FREE: A woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries after her car and a truck collided on Ngunguru Rd yesterday. MICHAEL CUNNINGHAM

Appalling spring weather was believed to have been behind an accident that left a 24-year-old Whangarei woman in intensive care with serious injuries.

Whangarei police serious crash unit investigator Senior Constable Warren Bunn said the woman was driving her Holden car towards Whangarei from Ngunguru about 8.45am yesterday.

About 70 metres west of Coal Hill Lane, on Ngunguru Rd, the car collided head on with an Isuzu truck heading in the opposite direction, Mr Bunn said.
