We really need your participation in reviewing our Conservation Management Strategy (CMS)!

The Northland conservancy is beginning that review process.  The current CMS expires in 2009.

A CMS describes how places the Department manages on your behalf, (public conservation land and water) should be and look in 10 years time.

It's about how people like you can support the conservation task. So your views on the places you visit, value and treasure are really important.

The NZCPS is a very important document in the hierarchy of resource management policies and plans. It sets out objectives and policies for the coast on matters of national significance. All regional and district level policies and plans under the Resource Management Act 1991 must give effect to the NZCPS.

The proposed 2008 NZCPS will replace the existing 1994 NZCPS which has been rather ineffective in giving clear direction about coastal planning and management. This has been in part because it has not been followed by district councils and consent authorities (poor practice) and also because it was a first generation NZCPS and was not as directive as it might have been.

The opportunity is now open to community groups and individuals to submit on the proposed 2008 NZCPS. In making submissions, EDS suggests that the following high level considerations should be included.

Annual Plan Submissions - one week to go! PDF Print E-mail

Thursday, 01 May 2008

Whangarei residents have one more week in which to make submissions on Whangarei District Council's Draft Annual Plan. This plan sets out the projects to be completed by Council in 2008/2009, year three of the Long Term Council Community Plan.

So far 55 people have made submissions, the majority asking for funding to be allocated to Stage two of the Kensington Multi-sport Facility.

The following projects have been included in the Draft Plan for members of the public to comment upon, support or reject. People may also suggest items which have not been included in the Draft Plan, said Strategic Communications Manager Pauline Rose.

"This is the main opportunity people have every year to say whether or not they support Council's proposed plans and expenditure for the coming year. This is the time to inspect the Annual Plan closely and to comment on the direction in which Council is heading. We value this input and the Councillors consider it all before any changes are made to the plan and it is signed off."
